I think Starbucks and places like it are one of the few places where it's OK to leave a tip of whatever you change is (including coins)....maybe I'll toss in a buck occasionally for a place I visit regularly and they give good service.

I 100% agree with this. If you're not willing to tip properly, then get in your car and go pick up the food yourself. Otherwise 15-20% is totally appropriate. I order from the same pizza place generally, and I don't want the delivery guys to think of our house as the cheap one, because they can make us last on the route. I just ask that like in a restaurant they provide the service that earns it.

There's only been one time I didn't tip my delivery driver. Delivery pizza that was promised in 15 minutes and took over an hour. I'm calling the pizza place and asking where he's at. They say "in the lobby of your building" and I say "no he's not because I'm in the lobby of my building waiting for him" Not even so much as an apology when the pizza got there, cold. I even checked my receipt which had the address printed correctly on it. I asked for my change back, all of it, including my 13 cents. I also didn't order delivery from them again, despite them being one of the better places in my area.

This is a great post. I'm a Guest Services manager at a small hotel. The quality of writing in a complaint letter or online review really makes a big difference in how seriously we take it. Someone that uses expletives or seems like an abusive jack ass, we really don't want back so they're not going to get any resolution from us. However, when people seem reasonable and have a good point, we want to work with them more then anything.
I did have a couple things to add. If you complain to us in person, we offer you resolution which you accept and thank us for. Don't follow that up with a nasty review about the experience and not mention the resolution we offered.
Also when making offering negative feedback or making a complaint, either in person or in writing, if you make it apparent that no matter what we do you're not coming back, then there's really not incentive for us to offer anything. You have to be willing to forgive and forget.
Similarly, don't lord the one negative experience over us every time you do come back and expect us to keep apologizing if nothing new goes wrong. Even then, if something new goes wrong, let's try to dwell on the present not the past. You're the one who decided to come back. If you can't move on, then don't come back because you should be here to relax not to try and continue to stick it to us. Because we keep track of guest history, and if you develop a history of being a complainer or seem like you're always looking for special treatment, you're likely to get cut off at some point.
Last off, if you decide to come speak with us in person, keep a cool head. No matter what went wrong, being abusive to my staff, other guests, or me isn't going to get you what you want. If anything I've seen it result in 0 compensation and asking the guest to leave. We don't want things to go wrong, and we genuinely want to fix it for you if you're willing to let us try.
That's just my two cents.

That's true. I should probably slow down on my YogurtLand binges.

But aren't anti-tumor agents supposed to keep you from getting tumors?
